Since commencing practice in 1979, Barry has primarily been involved in a wide range of litigation in all jurisdictions and provision of general advice. Barry has for many years acted for both individuals and corporate entities either directly or under instructions from insurers. From an insurance perspective, he has had extensive experience in particular in public and product liability, professional indemnity and recoveries. The coronial inquests in which Barry has acted have involved a variety of occurrences, from a spate of fires in similar types of public housing accommodation to rural and farm-related deaths to potential liability of manufacturers of equipment for deaths of operators. Additionally, his wide range of experience in acting for both private and public clients, has included provision of legal and strategic advice on a range of issues, including all statutory and regulatory requirements, Freedom of Information, compliance, as well as valuable expertise in litigation strategies and tactics. More recently, Barry has been particularly involved in client presentations including conducting of workshops after significant litigation for a major telecommunications client, advising clients on information and investigation required for volume recovery actions and document compilation and retention, and governance fundamentals for local government and newly elected Councillors. Barry is currently authoring the chapter on Council Administration for the Local Government Service Victoria. |
