Experience:  

Maureen has been practising in the Land and Environment Court for over 20 years as well as in related matters in the Supreme Court and Federal Court. She has extensive experience in Class 1, 3, 4 and 5 matters in the Land and Environment Court.

Maureen has a large environmental law practice, acting and advising in relation to development, planning appeals, compulsory acquisitions, compliance and contamination matters.

Maureen has run proceedings in the Supreme Court and Federal Court of a non-planning and environment nature. She also practices in the Liquor Licensing Courts and is able to advise in relation to the Liquor Act 1982.

In 2004, the Law Council of Australia appointed Maureen Chair of its Australian Environment and Planning Law Group.

As current Vice President and long standing member of the Environment and Planning Law Association (NSW), she has contributed to the Association’s advisory role to government on changes proposed to legislation affecting the Land and Environment Court and expert witness practice directions in the Land and Environment Court.

In 2005, the Australian Property Industry presented Maureen with an award for outstanding service to that Association. Maureen’s contribution included lecturing in Expert Witness Practice Directions for Associate Professional Certificate, API, and University of Sydney. This course was set up at the request of the Chief Judge of the Land and Environment Court of NSW.

In addition, Maureen has authored various publications on Environment Law, including:

  • Contamination, Contaminated Land Vicarious Liability – Who Pays?, College of Law, 27 October 2004
  • Recent changes to the Land and Environment Court Act 2002, (including Section 88K Easement Provisions which may be included in an application to the LEC), College of Law, August 2003
  • Defending Pollution Prosecutions, Australian Contaminated Land Consultants Association, August 2002
  • Amendments to the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1999, Environment and Planning Law Association (NSW), Mudgee – 1999
