Insurance Law Issues and New Legislation

Business Interruption Claims Leo Fluitsma of Equity Adjusters will talk on business interruption claims from a loss adjustors perspective, as a person who is early on the scene at an insured premises. The New Civil Procedure Act – What you need to know now Nieva Connell, a Partner in Hunt & Hunt’s Insurance team, will provide an overview of the new legislation with an emphasis on what insurers and others need to know in order to ensure they comply with the legislation when it commences. Burning Issues in Arson Murray McInnis, Barrister and former Commonwealth Justice, will examine arson scene investigation, the importance of retention of exhibits, arson claims, their policy implications and the role of experts and lawyers.

Legal and financial considerations in retail leasing

An interactive discussion focused on retail landlords, tenants and real estate agents, our seminar provided a practical guide to the legal and financial aspects of retail leasing having regard to some recent cases. The discussion covered topics such as market rent reviews – aspects of the Retail Leases Act that valuers should take into account; what’s taxable and what’s tax free: interest free loans, fit outs, removal expenses, surrender payments; and financial inducements offered to potential tenants and their different formats.

Complicance and consequences – fair work conditions of employment

Following the Fair Work Act coming into place on 1 July 2010 for conditions of employment, it’s important that employers understand their obligations as failure to comply may result in claims for back pay and could result in prosecutions and fines. We guided employers through the consequences of failing to comply, contracts of employment, workplace policies and existing workplace agreements – what employers can and cannot change, the transitional provisions and what employers need to do now.

Anti-discrimination seminar focussing on the Legal Profession Regulation 2005 Sections 175 and 176 MCLE

This seminar focused on the Legal Profession Regulation 2005 Sections 175 and 176 MCLE. Section 176 requires solicitors to undertake MCLE relating to the management of the practice of law dealing predominantly with the principles of equal opportunity, discrimination and harassment occupational health and safety law and employment law.

Asset protection and estate planning – proven strategies to defend your financial fortress

Hunt & Hunt in conjunction with Reckon Espreon analysed the opportunities to protect financial assets, while reviewing the rights of creditors and the ATO to invade trust assets and challenge transfers made to family members and others. The panel discussion highlighted legal developments about social security and tax planning and talked about the market leading technology in providing documentation for company formations, secretarial services, trusts, and self managed super fund trust deeds.
