MEDIA RELEASE: Barunga West Community Road Safety Group wins major award


BARUNGA WEST COMMUNITY ROAD SAFETY GROUP have won the Hunt and Hunt Lawyers Community Road Safety Award in the 2013 Community Achievement Awards. Barunga West Community Road Safety Group won the Award from a strong field of nominees and were one of eight category winners announced on Friday 1st November 2013 at the Stamford Grand Adelaide.

More than 350 guests including The Honourable Tony Piccolo MP, Minister for Communities and Social Inclusion attended the Gala event which paid tribute to many of South Australia's outstanding community contributors. Barunga West Community Road Safety Group representatives were presented with their Award by Brenton James, Managing Partner, Hunt and Hunt Lawyers.

The eight category winners are:

  • HATS INC (HERITAGE ARTS AND TRADITIONS) of Auburn - Prime Super Community Group of the Year Award
  • BARUNGA WEST COMMUNITY ROAD SAFETY GROUP - Hunt and Hunt Lawyers Community Road Safety Award
  • JENNIFER FARNDEN of Myponga - Rural Doctors Workforce Agency Community Rural Health and Wellbeing Award
  • MARGARET BUTTON of Minlaton - SA Power Networks Leadership and Innovation Award
  • MARCIA JOHNSON TIMM of Eden Valley - Carers SA Carer Achievement Award
  • STEVEN CAMERON of Mile End - Haigh’s Chocolates Career Achievement Award
  • ECO BUMS THE CLOTH NAPPY LIBRARY of Torrensville - Fivestar Print Environment and Sustainability Award
  • ORROROO COMMUNITY GYM INC - Medibank Community Healthy Participation Award

Winners were presented with a $2,000 Everyday Account from the Commonwealth Bank and a trophy in recognition of their achievements.

BARUNGA WEST COMMUNITY ROAD SAFETY GROUP formed in 2000. Their diverse group of volunteers range in age from 21 to 70, and contribute many hours improving road safety. Developing promotional and informative activities and programs, the groups’ aims are to promote positive community road safety messages, increase driver awareness and reduce the number of crashes. The group recently secured $2,500 funding to run a driver awareness course for L and P plate drivers.<>
