Experience

Ashley practices in our commercial law area, where he has particular experience helping clients structure and execute complex commercial transactions, including major projects. Ashley represents clients in matters relating to project appraisal, administration of competitive tenders, contract negotiation and drafting and the provision of post-contract commercial advice.

His practice also covers all aspects of IP/IT, including copyright and design law, competition and licensing law, and advertising law.

In addition, Ashley's practice includes expertise in corporate law where he works closely with clients in mergers and acquisitions and IPO's. This includes identifying corporate liability for misleading and deceptive conduct, conduct of due diligence investigations and advising on trade practices issues.

Ashley has had leading roles in structuring, negotiating and implementing contracts for air traffic control systems, public transport infrastructure, toll roads, power stations, naval dockyards, system installations, information technology and other major infrastructure from mixed-use residential and Alpine developments to commercial and industrial developments. He specialises in leading multi-disciplinary teams in strategic planning, contract analysis and the preparation and negotiation of documents for these transactions.

Ashley heads our Alpine Development Group and provides a broad range of specialised advice to the operator of two of Victoria's leading Alpine ski resorts.

Ashley's practice includes work undertaken in the defence area such as providing commercial legal advice to one of the tenderers to the Commonwealth DIDS Project, reviewing defence procurement contracts as well as advice to the operator of the Joint Defence Facility at Pine Gap and advice to the Commonwealth on defence related contracts.

Ashley is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
