Jahmima is a dedicated professional specialising in insolvency and debt recovery. She advises clients on debt recovery and enforcement strategies with the aim of achieving a cost effective and timely outcome.
Jahmima currently undertakes a wide range of debt recovery for Newcastle Permanent Building Society with particular focus on mortgage enforcement and credit card recoveries throughout NSW.
Jahmima routinely appears in the debt recovery jurisdictions in NSW including the Local Court, the "possession list" of the Supreme Court, and the bankruptcy and "winding up" lists of the Federal Magistrates Court. She has also been involved with commercial litigation matters for private and publicly listed companies and in prosecuting for government agencies.
As a member of Hunt & Hunt's Regulatory Prosecutions team Jahmima's practice areas also include prosecutions and merit appeals under road transport law and statutory interpretation. She has significant experience appearing as an advocate for Roads & Maritime Services (RMS) and the State Debt Recovery Office (SDRO) in prosecutions and administrative reviews in the Local Court and conducting "all ground" appeals and severity appeals in the District Court.
She is currently assisting SDRO to select and prosecute a large number of matters intended to enforce compliance with the penalty notice system and encourage behavioural change of serial offenders.
Jahmima has played an active role in the preparation and conduct of many of our most notable cases on RMS's behalf instructing counsel in both the NSW Court of Appeal and NSW Court of Criminal Appeal. Her intimate knowledge of NSW government agencies and their operating environment is highly valued; it has been enhanced by her having completed a secondment with the RMS legal branch.
